Holiday Impact on Distribution

How Do You Prepare Your Logistics for the Holidays?

Walk into any retail store, and more than likely you are seeing Halloween Candy and other products geared towards the fall holiday season. Pumpkin is an immediate predictor, with Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner. What does that mean for the supply chain? Historically, distribution is impacted with ever-increasing volume, surrounded by the expectation of faster delivery expectations. 2024 will be no different, further impacted by some more nuanced trends.

Social Media is Driving E-Commerce Sales

Social Media to include ads on Instagram and organic posts by influencers are driving sales of many consumer goods including food and beverage, health and beauty, and technology. This Social Commerce, or Mobile Shopping, as it was previously named impacts manufacturing and shipping. Based on the viral nature of these trends, it is hard to predict the impact a post or an ad might have. For a shopper, the goal is to click, buy, and receive. For a manufacturer, the goal will be to predict, schedule inbound products, store, and fulfill when the demands spike.

The Labor Market and Driver Shortages Can Slow Distribution

Quality labor from dedicated associates and dependable drivers are the key to a stable supply chain. Without these essential team members, the process stops. At BGDC, we have over 1500 associates who understand how valued they are. Our culture fosters their training and development and drives them providing incredible customer service. Our drivers and warehouse associates are BGDC employees, and feel as though they are part of the team. We are proud to offer fantastic pay and comprehensive benefits to keep them on our Team, providing logistical excellence.

Technology Capability Combats Supply Chain Volatility

When you factor in faster shipping expectations, increased volume, and season compression between Thanksgiving and Christmas, our customers want to know that their needs are met. To instill confidence, BGDC Technology provides business insights to support forecasting, inventory management, traceability, and visibility into their products. With a compressed season, they have fewer days to sell products on their retail shelves, therefore on-time and in-full is even more important in 2024.
